NCMSLC: The Conference

The National Christian Multicultural Student Leaders Conference (NCMSLC), or Nickumslick as it is affectionately referred to, is an annual student development conference which aims to provide participants with knowledge and skills that enhance their understanding of multicultural ideals, challenges and realities, and the role of Christian students and Christian institutions in the journey toward cultural competency.

Through conference speakers, workshops, interactive exercises and trainings, participants come to better understand the celebration of diversity as a critical process leading to fully embracing God’s justice and as a step, a necessary but yet just a step, toward developing models for change that will address their personal and collective needs on campus and in society.

Over 300 Christian, multicultural students from all over the world, assemble on a college campus and spend 3 days examining what it means to live, study and worship in a multicultural academic community. They also learn how to use their knowledge, skills and experiences as upcoming Christian leaders to be agents of change on their campuses, in their communities and throughout the world.

The student participants represent a wide range -- from those who are directly involved in multicultural programming on their campuses to those for whom the very topic of multiculturalism is new. All are welcome and enrich this wonderful think tank of bright minds and gifted students.

In addition, college staff, faculty and administrators experience significant growth through this conference. The Conference provides the opportunity to exchange ideas, learn of programs that work, and to hear from the voices of those that often go unheard on college campuses. Many college staff, faculty and administrators have expressed that the Conference gives them the motivation and practical tools for forging multicultural efforts on their campuses.

The Conference provides 3 days of intense, academic, challenging and fun experiences for those who desire to grow and to contribute to the growth of others.
