About NCMSLC, Inc.:
In May 2000, Venessa Ann Brown and Rhae-Ann Booker, both graduates of predominantly white Christian colleges, founded the National Christian Multicultural Student Leaders Conference (NCMSLC), Inc.
Having firsthand experience attending student leadership conferences, they recognized the need to foster conversations about issues impacting students of color in higher education, and specifically Christian higher education.
The primary goal of the Conference is to empower student leaders to embrace cultural diversity and achieve cultural competency while motivating inclusive leadership that values the contributions of all people. The Conference is a major source of encouragement and support for student leaders in Christian higher education.
The Conference provides opportunities for administrators and advisors to brainstorm and exchange ideas about cultural diversity while receiving practical feedback from students.
The Conference is founded upon the concept of diversity in community found in Revelations 7:9 (NIV): "After I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the lamb worshiping God."
We Value:
- A diverse community as a reflection of the kingdom of God
- Openness and inclusion of a multitude of voices
- Differences in language, culture, ethnicity, and gender
- Collegiality in an environment that encourages collaboration
- Creativity and innovation in programming
- Higher education and its contributions to critical thinking
- The spiritual connection needed to embrace differences
- The sovereignty of God in all things and as the primary motivation for our work
- Giving voice and visibility to oppressed groups
- The power of students to impact change
- Social change and justice for the greater good of all
- Education and research that has the power to achieve desired changes
